change is good...especially for someone with an attention span as short as mine. i guess that's what brings me here. i killed the pita and am starting fresh. hopefully, the change will make me a bit more prolific with my posts.

the past week or so has marked my return to good health. i'm pretty damn relieved. i was starting to worry that i'd become an invalid. you know, one of those shut-ins who has their food delivered by some kinda meals-on wheels program. fortunately, i was being a bit melodramatic. unfortunately, i ended up sharing my sickness with others. both francesca and a guy at work have been coughing their heads off. sorry, folks. i've gotta learn to keep my germs to myself.

a few interesting items to share about the weekend. the first involves basketball and blood. on saturday, i managed to make it out to the morning hoops game and i was feeling good. to be honest, i was on fire...even from beyond the 3-point line. then, while going for a loose ball, i took a shot to the chin from a guy's head. the impact made me bite down on my tongue. we're talking some serious force behind the bite. instantly, my mouth filled with blood and it wouldn't stop for a good 10-15 minutes. one of the guys was worried and checked to make sure i hadn't bitten all the way through the tongue. i also think i scared some kids and their parents in the park with my gene simmons blood-spitting act. it was pretty ugly...i even managed to ruin my shirt.

the other weekend incident involved an attempt to see james ellroy do a reading in the haight. we got over there, only to find out he'd cancelled due to "illness." evidently, ellroy's publicist was cancelling most of the dates on the tour for his new book due to exhaustion. it was disappointing because based on the documentary i saw on him, he would've been interesting to see.

that's the second time i've had shit luck at a reading in the haight. the last time, i went to see dave eggers and the thing was so packed, we couldn't get in. i'm hoping there's no problem with mark eitzel's free show at amoeba tomorrow. if he cancels, i'm going to boycott the haight for awhile.
