i was sad to see that jack lemmon died last night. he was a pretty great actor and from the interviews i saw with him, he seemed like a good guy as well. he seemed to be at his best in comedic roles like the ones in some like it hot and the apartment, but he was excellent in dramatic films too. i rented a couple of his movies that i haven't seen...the days of wine and roses and the china syndrome.
finally, i got my hands on the new issue of the big takeover today. it was worth the wait. mr. rabid outdid himself this time...with almost 300 pages of music goodness. interviews with idlewild, tomata du plenty and robert pollard of GBV should be cool. and no big surprise...rabid's #1 pick of the issue was the new lp by the pernice brothers. it's definitely one of the 2 or 3 best records of the year so far...perhaps the best.
