another season of futility?

a professor from USF has written an excellent basic guide to US foreign policy in the middle east. everyone should read this and get a better understanding of what's going on over there because the majority of americans don't seem to have a clue.
changing gears...i'm worried about the astros. i watched the game against the giants tonight and they looked horrible. i'm starting to fear one of those notorious houston chokes. having grown up there and witnessing several heartbreaking defeats (does buffalo ring a bell?), i don't know if i can bear to watch the 'stros fold this year. they'll probably still get the wild card, but that will likely result in a matchup with arizona and the way the astros are hitting right now...schilling and the big unit will kill them. too bad bonds didn't hit one out tonight. except for wagner, who went right at him, they didn't give him much of a chance. not really a big surprise. wednesday's game is only on cable, so it looks like i'm hitting a bar after work.
