it's matter, of course...

chipper jones ruined my day yesterday. and today, the astros' bats went into another coma. now they're down 0-2. the season's pretty much over and larry dierker's tenure at manager is probably over as well. i really thought this might be their year.

as the bombs fall in afghanistan and people come down with anthrax poisoning in florida, i found one thing to be happy about. the new david lynch movie comes out on friday. at least i'll be able to spend a couple of hours engrossed in something and blissfully unaware of what's going on in the world.

music: sparta - "air"

okay, so the new david lynch movie is not the only thing to be happy about. there's also the new fugazi record, which comes out next tuesday. they're also releasing a 7" on the same day. the great thing about the single is that all three songs are ones not on the album. so many bands that release singles with their lps end up putting a couple songs from the full-length and maybe one unreleased track. cheers to fugazi for giving us 3 brand new songs. i'm looking forward to hearing all the new stuff.

another good thing music-wise is the new band formed by jim, paul and tony of at the drive-in. they're called sparta and they've been playing out with the murder city devils on mcd's final tour. they have some mp3s on their site and they sound damn good. if you download only one song, "air" is the best one. luckily enough, they're headlining a show at slim's on sunday night. that'll give me an excuse to actually leave the house this weekend...something i haven't done much of lately.

finally, michael moore's wise-ass column on why we should give war a chance should put a smile on your face...
