there's nothing in my dreams, just some ugly memories

pretty crazy day today. got up early to go see a matinee of dogtown and z-boys with kai, miles and jackson. what a great movie. i was never much of a skater growing up in texas because nobody really skated in houston. i've only been on a skateboard a couple times in my life. but whether you're a skater or not, the movie was a fascinating look at the birth of a movement back in the 70's in southern california. without these guys, skateboarding wouldn't be what it is today. they paved the way for tony hawk and all the big skating stars and they did it total punk rock style, skating in drained swimming pools in houses up for sale and running from the cops...way before the days of half-pipes and corporate sponsorship. of course, a lot of these kids like tony alva went on to fame and fortune from skating, but when they started out they were going against the grain, doing things that no one else was simply for the love of it. they were tough kids, almost like a gang. anyway, it's a great documentary. check it out if you get a chance.

after the movie, there was a lot of drinking going on (although some people...i won't mention any names...didn't wait until the movie was done). we ended up at my place eating veggie burritos and watching sacramento kick dallas's ass in game 1 of their series. it's too bad kai and miles had to head to sacto, because i wanted to get kai's ass out on the basketball court for some hoop action.

time to watch some dvds......
