I've got a splitting headache this morning and it isn't because I got hammered for the Super Bowl. And no, I wasn't in Oakland overturning trash cans or setting cars on fire...although I'll admit it might've been fun to ransack McDonald's. Unfortunately, I doubt any of the vandalism had political motivation. McDonald's just happened to be there just like the paint store that got messed up and all the poor fools' cars up and down International. Drunk fucking idiots don't need much of an excuse to act stupid. I'm sure the same thing would've happened if the Raiders had won. As usual, the cops didn't help matters by firing tear gas and rubber bullets at people. I saw one clip on the news of some woman simply yelling at the cops and then getting beat to the ground. You can always count on the police to use good judgment and show remarkable restraint.

It's sad to admit I did watch most of the game. What a waste of time. I even sat there brain dead for the stupid commercials until midway through the 3rd quarter. Originally, I was going to turn the TV off or leave the room during the commercials but I was too damn lazy. Besides, I don't buy any of the stuff they sell on TV anyway. Okay, maybe I do get a Quizno's veggie sub once in awhile. But that's about it. It's not like I'm susceptible to the marketing mind control. All I will say about the commercials is that they all pretty much sucked. I'm also a little upset after seeing the preview for The Hulk. I'd been looking forward to it because Ang Lee's directing and the Australian dude from Chopper is in it, but the CGI Hulk looks pretty lame. Enough of that...there's not supposed to be movie talk here.

Getting back to the Super Bowl, I think the most intriguing thing is the story about the guy from the Raiders, Barrett Robbins, who went AWOL in Tijuana for two days and didn't play in the game. There's all kinds of rumors about what happened to him, most involving alcohol, but none so far that include a donkey or a santeria cult. I'm sure the local papers will do plenty of speculating. It sucks to be a Raider fan at the moment and it also sucks to not be a fan but to have wasted your Sunday afternoon watching them get spanked. Maybe next year I'll show some willpower and not watch the big game at all.
