Finally back in SF and enjoying one more day off before going back to the soul-killing boredom of work. I was fortunate enough to salvage a shit day of traveling by changing my flights at the last minute. I'd been scheduled to fly from NC to Newark and then Newark to SF. My flight to Newark kept getting delayed because of thunderstorms and it got to the point where I'd miss my connection to SF. To avoid the weather, I got them to put me on a flight to Houston which connected to SF. Turns out I made the right call since the flight to Newark was delayed almost 4 hours. I might've had to spend the night in Newark. That would've fucking sucked.
The last few days of my trip were pretty blah. I would've been happy coming home a few days earlier. There's only so much to do in Greensboro without a car and there's only so much time you can spend with family before going batty. There were a few good things about my final days. Got to have lunch and several pints at the Red Oak Brew Pub. You know you're in the South when they offer black-eyed peas as a side dish with burgers. Red Oak beer, by the way, is really good. They claim it's the only unfiltered lager in America and is more nutritious than other beers...blah, blah, blah. Anyway, it's a quality amber lager that I think a certain beer-whore friend of mine would enjoy.
I also got to bowl (a high game of 149 wasn't enough to top my uncle's 155) and ate my last North Carolina meal at a Southern cafeteria. Collard greens, black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes, cornbread and coconut cream pie all for under $5. It was one of the best meals I had all week. I can't believe I ate black-eyed peas twice in two days. I never liked them before. What's next, a love affair with brussel sprouts?
