Let me know when the vacation part of this trip begins...

Fuck. It's been one misadventure after another since we got to Seattle. On Saturday, all the clocks in
decadentscholar's family's house were running pre-daylight savings time and we thought we had an hour more than we did. As a result of that and a bizarre key-making fiasco at the hardware store, we missed seeing a free show by Trail of Dead in Queen Anne. We ended up making dinner and going to sleep as early as the inhabitants of your local assisted living center.
On Sunday, we had an okay day I guess. We scoped out the Fremont area and had breakfast at a semi-swanky place. The weather was completely psychotic, going from beautiful sunshine to wind and rain to sun and rain and then repeating the cycle. We also spent an inordinate amount of time with a 3-month old baby (oh so fun that was) and then helped clean up pine needles and other unsightly messes at an apt. building in Ballard (don't fucking ask). Things did pick up when we walked down Ballard Ave. and found the Old Town Alehouse. After an Elysian "The Wise" ESB, a Boundary Bay IPA and an order of fries, all was right with the world (note to
slipkid: the IPA was the shit. Aggressively hoppy in a good way similar to our own Big Daddy IPA). We also came across Bop Street Records, which the guy who popped his head out the door really tried to sell us on. He claimed that the store had won best record store in America on Antiques Roadshow and that Radiohead had spent 7 hours in there browsing. I would've gone in, but we were on a tight schedule and I didn't trust myself to be brief.
Today was maybe the best and worst of the trip. The worst was getting in a fender bender near Seattle Center. No one was hurt except the car and that was bad enough. We were able to salvage the day by seeing our first film at the fest and having a great dinner at Araya's in the U-District. The avocado curry with four kinds of veggie meat was one of the best things I've had in my 10 year tenure as anon-carnivorous being. We capped the day off by discussing the film (an excellent political thriller from Denmark called King's Game) over beers at the College Inn. The beers at College Inn (which included a disappointing Diamond Knot IPA from Mukilteo) were not up to the high standards of the selections in Ballard, but we liked the cavernous booths which were perfect to kick back and talk about the film.
Tomorrow, we leave the wilds of Mercer Island to stay two nights in Seattle proper and start seeing a lot more films. We'll also get to meet
kent and his lady. Should be a good day. I should also have a review of King's Game up on Film Lovers Are Sick People by midday.
A final note after reading this over: when did I become a pretentious beer snob? I guess being up here brings it out of me. At home, I just drink the same old Guinness time after time.
