Tuesday's Bullet Point Special

  • I only have three more nights to see Metal: A Headbanger's Journey at the NW Film Forum. I hope Ludicra somehow made it into the movie, but I doubt it. There could be an entire documentary on the history of the Bay Area metal scene over the years. That would be fun to do. Or maybe one about the punk scene back in the day. The Mabuhay Gardens and all that.

  • I think I've found what I want to do. For the first time in years, I feel motivated. I need to get into the MA program in Cinema Studies at SFSU. That would involve moving back to SF and reacquiring California citizenship. It would also involve being one of the 8-10 people allowed in each year. Considering I have no job-related film experience, it might be tough. All I have going for me is that I watch 200+ movies a year, write poorly and infrequently in a film blog and have a better than average knowledge of all things film noir. I've got a lot of work to do.

  • In De Winkel, a record by a band from Chicago called The Krunchies, is a 19 minute assault on the senses. They have that girl/guy trade-off singing thing and the guy sounds like pretty standard Rip-Off Records style punk while the girl sounds like something inhuman. She's a cheese-grater to the soft tissue of the ear. It's sort of cool, but exhausting to listen to even though though it's so brief.

  • According to sources, the pollen count is very fucking high today. That means I'm Claritin boy. I held off as long as I could, but the suffering was taking its toll. I wish it didn't take 10 minutes to open one of those annoying foil pill packets.
